該流域氣候溫和,水量充沛,水面平緩,含砂量小,對(duì)充分開(kāi)發(fā)這一地區(qū)的航運(yùn)具有天然的優(yōu)越條件。流域內(nèi)有耕地700多萬(wàn)畝,礦藏資源十分豐富,工礦企業(yè)較發(fā)達(dá),有國(guó)家最大的有色金屬冶煉工程銅基地及腹地內(nèi)的建材輕工。原材料及銷(xiāo)售地大部分在長(zhǎng)江流域各省、市地區(qū),利用水運(yùn)的條件十分優(yōu)越。
流域梯級(jí)開(kāi)發(fā)后,將建成一條長(zhǎng)340km通航千噸級(jí)駁船的航道和另一條長(zhǎng)50km通航300噸級(jí)駁船的航道,并與長(zhǎng)江、淮河水系相互貫通形成一個(gè)江河直達(dá)的上游水路運(yùn)輸網(wǎng)。同時(shí)也為沿江各縣市擴(kuò)大直流灌溉創(chuàng)造有利條件。對(duì)促進(jìn)沿河地區(qū)的工農(nóng)業(yè)發(fā)展具有重要的作用,社會(huì)和經(jīng)濟(jì)效益十分顯著。
